Kayak race Sept 13th 2014 to benefit the Pasco County Mental Health Foundation in New Port Richey FL

The race for mental health was September 13th, 2014.  The race was only 4 miles from Francis Avenue Park to Gil Dawgs.  A small pack of racer and recreational paddlers showed up to support this great cause.  100% of the profits of the race went to assist people who the foundation helps.  The foundation is 100% volunteer run with no staff so all of the donations help those with mental health needs.  The race started off with a high pumping sprint at 8.5-9mph in the shallow water.  We could tell everyone there were out for blood!  The race maintained a grueling 8mph pace for the entire race length.  In my opinion one of the fastest races in 2014.  In the mens 15+ length class, Brent Postma achieved 1st place with a time of 30.5 min, Karl Vogel 2nd place with a time of 31 minutes, and Steve Hunter 3rd place chasing Karl closely with 31.6 minutes.  Jan Mallet won first place in the women's over 15+ length class in her first race ever!  Thank you to all who came out to support this great race.
