Alexia Lopez OC-6 Clinic Dunedin FL Saturday July 26th

Aloha everyone!

I've just confirmed that my coach from Molokai will be here in this weekend and will be teaching a couple of OC6 clinics up here in Dunedin. I am super stoked to have her here! Everyone is invited to come!

Her name is Alexia Lopez, and she paddles for the Waikiki Beachboys Women's A Team in Hawaii - which basically means that she paddles with one of the best women's programs in the world. They came in second in Molokai last year when I paddled it. She's been with them for a long time, but originally paddled with a recreational (and now competitive) club named Manu O Ke Kai in the North Shore of Oahu. In 2013, Alexia gave back to her original club by developing and coaching their women's program for free, as good aloha to her original hale.

I paddled with Manu for Molokai, and found Alexia to be tough yet very inspiring. My experience with her was one of the most significant paddling experiences of my life. She's a celebrity among the wahine paddlers in Oahu, and we are super lucky to have her coming to paddle and work with us.

She's slots on Saturday, July 26th each is 1.5-2 hours long on the Dunedin Causeway. The clinics are coed, so guys are welcome too! She will also have a guys coach with her.
The first clinic is full, so that gives you time to train before the second one. She'll be covering: technique, Jobs per seat, Philosophy of racing, and anything else she feels that you need after seeing you paddle. She can also email before and after videos after the clinics.

11:30 a.m. slot has plenty of room. Cost is $40. There are two canoes, but if anyone has an oc1 or two man, they are welcome to come too (let me know if that is the case, don't use RSVP service for those). Our crew will provide shade, as well as snacks and drinks.

The Dunedin Causeway is the road that leads into Honeymoon Island. We have an agreement with the vendor out there to launch our canoes. We launch just past the kayak rental - Sail Honeymoon, 61 Causeway Blvd, Dunedin, FL 34698.

Outdoor storage of surfski

I moved into a smaller house with a garage that is not big enough to store a 22' surfski. Here is how I properly stored my ski outdoors without sun or moisture damage in sunny high humidity Florida. I looked online and all the covers seem so expensive. I thought about it alot & finally got the perfect solution.  I picked up an industrial thickness white vinyl tarp cover.  Don't use the cheaper home depot variety.  Get the high quality thick industrial stuff in white.  I cut it in strips so that I could cover several boats.  I also found a silver/gray elasticized gray boat cover which someone got rid of (likely for a 20 foot boat) which I lay over the white vinyl.  Two layers of protection.  How fortunate!  Its elastic ends fit perfectly over my surfski. I use 4 straps to keep the cover firmly in place in high winds.  I store it in the shade of the trees and pool screen to keep it cool.  Finally, if you need to, you can run a combo lock cable thru the venturi port to protec

My first surfski a Futura sport

I raced and surfed this boat for at least 5 years.  It's very tough.  I originally picked this up from a guy in Orlando.  I was looking for a retro Magnum P.I. type surfski.  I didn't know about the high-tech carbon fiber models at the time.  I later used it as a trainer for newbies.  My brother-in-law now owns it.  The stripes, handles, and seat padding I added to it.  It had metal rudder cables, aluminum kick-up rudder, and aluminum rudder pedals. Very durable to own for many years.  I'm glad to have owned a classic boat as well as the modern ones.  There are rivers I was able to race in this one that I wouldn't have considered bringing a more expensive lighter boat.
