List of paddling Pasco events thru April 2014

1.     Sunday January 19, 2014 - Sunrise paddling trip from Nicks Park in Port Richey to Durney Key off the mouth of the Cotee River. Coffee, Danish and maybe Champagne raised to celebrate the start of another wonderful day in paradise. Explore the island and nearby stilt houses and return to Nicks Park. We will launch between 6:45 am and 7 am – bring a lighting devise. Sunrise is at 7:23 am. We will head back to shore between 9:45 am and 10 am. It will be low tide when we head back in. Maybe lunch at Gill Dawg and Nap in the afternoon.

2.     Saturday February 22, 2014 - Sunset paddling trip from Eagle Point Park to Anclote River Park along the SW Pasco County coastline. Fire on the beach at Anclote River Park for about an hour and a half after sunset. Enjoy the mangrove covered shoreline along with a portion of the Ballies Bluff community, with views of the Gulf of Mexico and Anclote Key to the west. We will launch at Eagle Point Park (EPP) at 4:30 pm sharp for a 2 to 2.25 hour trip south about 5.75 miles. Drop boats off at EPP no later than 3:45 pm and park at Anclote River Park. Last shuttle back to your boats will leave Anclote River Park – south parking lot – at 4 pm. Sunset is at 6:27 pm.

Bring chairs to enjoy, and marsh mellows for - the fire.

3.     Sunday March 15, 2014 – Land and River excursion on the upper Cotee River from Francis Avenue Park up river to Greys Preserve and back down river to Francis Avenue Park in New Port Richey. This is a beautiful natural piece of the river and the park is very nice. During the trip we will provide information on some of the plants and wildlife on the river and in the park. Bring wildlife and plant life ID guides if you would like. Trip will be about 1.75 hours total in the water and about 45 to 1 hour minutes on land. We will be launching at 9 am after a brief talk and should be done by 12 noon.

We need to know if you or others are planning to attend so we can plan accordingly. Please prepare properly with cameras, sunscreen, dress, hats, insect repellant, etc. Please pay attention to the weather and wind conditions. All participants will be required to read and sign a waiver of liability before launch.

4.     April 25, 26 and 27, 2014 – Pasco Paddlepaloosa. Gill Dawg, Salt Srings Alliance, Pasco Parks and Recreation Paddling Pasco and the Pasco Office of Tourism are partnering to put this event together. This is a three day paddlers get together (event) with three key programs. Basically there will be a gathering on Friday evening at Gill Dawg for a sunset paddle trip to kick off the weekend, Saturday is Paddling Pasco’s “Durney Key Challenge” off Durney Key (2ndAnnual), Sunday is the Salt Springs Alliance kayak and SUP races with a fun paddle in the AM and finally Gill Dawg’s Dragon Boat races in the PM on Millers Bayou. Detailed information will be available soon. This will be the first Paddle Sport weekend in Pasco County – something for everyone – Gill Dawg must be recognized for taking the lead.
